We get excited about apps, widgets and all things digital. If you follow us on Twitter you’ll already be well aware of this. And our latest crush? Infographics!

Why are they so appealing and how can we use them to our advantage?

The Appeal

This cultural phenomenon satisfies our thirst for stats whilst pleasing our aesthetic eye.

How many times has a silly pub debate ended in a battle of the smartphones and a race to Google some pointless fact? Instant access to galaxies of information is killing our sense of wonder, dominating face-time and destroying our abilities to remember and reason.

We do like stats and facts, but we want them to be relevant and we want them condensed. We’ve got no time for ‘trawling’ in this new age of multitasking and hyperconnectivity. There’s absolutely nothing satisfying about sifting through search engine results anymore – anyone can do it. Nope – we’re purists and we want our facts and stats clean. Which is why we love infographics.

An infographic is a piece of visual media which presents and condenses a group of facts or stats. Books like Information is Beautiful and Infographica have taken the trend a step further and present all manner of global data in wacky charts and graphs with quirky icons, gorgeous typography and kaleidoscopic colours.

The Advantage

An interesting and useful infographic can easily go viral through your followers sharing and retweeting it on Twitter or Facebook. Forget press releases and pages of copy – these pieces of artwork speak for themselves. They can be a very useful (and super cheap) marketing tool if you’re looking for clever ways to shout about your product: how it’s made, where it comes from or what results your customers achieve through your services.
